Industry Demand for Tube Bending, Laser Cutting

Focus on New England

Our company recently travelled to New England to showcase our custom tube bending, tube lasering and end forming capabilities at Design-2-Part. This event drew thousands of attendees representing numerous industries. Product applications ranged from structural framing to battery packs to specialized hydraulic and electronic systems, and more. Customers were eager to discuss their specific part sourcing requirements and to share information on the opportunities and challenges in the market.

Attendees represented a variety of disciplines: corporate management, engineering, purchasing, quality control and R&D. Despite the diversity of the roles and industries, most conversations focused on capabilities, delivery lead time, machine technology, raw material sourcing and quality, underscoring the demand for suppliers to support the strong manufacturing base of this region.

In Massachusetts alone, manufacturing represents close to a quarter million jobs, followed by New Hampshire at 65,000 and Rhode Island with 39,000. If combined, the six New England states would rank seventh nationwide for manufacturing output, representing aerospace, computer and electronic products, food products, medical device, transportation equipment and fabricated metals.1

The Design-2-Part concept itself was introduced in 1974 by Ben Edwards and his wife Marge. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Edwards was inspired to promote American manufacturing to help companies maintain a leadership position in innovation and technology. At 88 years old, Mr. Edwards still attends this event.
