Job Summary:
The Tube Laser Operator-Lead is responsible for safely and efficiently setting up and running our CNC tube laser cutting machine to produce high quality parts, overseeing jobs in progress and working to ensure that all laser machine operators meet quality and delivery requirements.

- Perform typical laser cutting operations efficiently while meeting productivity and quality standards.
- Maintain ability to use the machine software in a proficient manner.
- Import part programs and then set up machine with most efficient and optimized settings.
- Set up machine to achieve acceptable part quality and cut quality; set up and run jobs in the estimated time frame.
- Monitor machine activity to ensure proper operation and prevent damage to machine.
- Perform prescribed machine maintenance as required.
- Troubleshoot any production problems.
- Continually look for ways to improve production efficiency.
- Understand part programming process and options.
- Hook up appropriate gas tanks to machine.
- Load raw material into machine.
- Inspect your work and complete proper inspection documents; perform all dimensional inspections.
- Select proper cutting programs, and proper fixtures.
- Establish proper stop location, adjust laser beam focal point.
- Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
- Work at different workstations as production needs require.
- Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
- Operate within company Quality Management System (QMS) procedures; adhere to the company Quality Policy.
- Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required.

Employee is responsible for carrying out these responsibilities and duties in addition to and beyond those of the primary role of Tube Laser Operator at Sharpe Products in support of shop floor production.
- Safety:
- Set up employees to operate new machines thoroughly reviewing safety protocol including emergency stops, pinch points, and potential machine failure points
- Observe and report violations of safety protocol to Plant Manager
- Provide regular input on safety improvement ideas throughout shop floor
- Basic Machine Maintenance
- Maintain working mechanical knowledge of machines; provide basic repair of consumable components
- Identify general machine issues in areas such as electrical, tooling, mechanical; make recommendations on required internal or external repairs
- New Product Development
- Communicate regularly with Estimating Department to provide ideas for production of new products
- Record production data on R&D projects to aid in feasibility tests for new work/projects
- Apply knowledge and experience during the quoting process to provide general estimates of production
- Production Rates
- Consistently exceed personal production rates (approximately 120%)
- Review setups of other employees to verify and support maximum efficiency
- Training
- Thoroughly instruct and/or explain process for setup, programming, or operating machines to employees
- Provide feedback to management regarding trainees’ level of competence to aid in scheduling
- Collaborate with management and/or quality manager to create and/or improve written procedures or work instructions
- Troubleshooting
- Work through challenging “A” level setups of various machines with employees
- Provide quick feedback to employees with suggestions on setup steps or causes of production issues
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing relatable experience.
- Ability to learn software application
- Detail oriented and ability to multitask.
- Logical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read prints
- Proficient in use of inspection equipment
- Effective and professional communication skills-verbal and written.
- Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Strong orientation toward quality, safety and continuous improvement.
- Desire to learn new skills and improve technical knowledge.
- Ability to handle stressful situations such as heavy/varying workload and order accuracy.

- This position is very active and requires standing and walking for 1 – 10 hours per day.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Work consistently and effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment wearing hearing protection, vision protection, safety-toe shoes and other appropriate protective clothing.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
